Major Gifts – the Best Bang for the Effort

When you have to raise money, it’s tempting to think only of special events or mailings or writing grants. The idea of asking an individual for a significant gift can be daunting. This session will help you find your own way to preparing for and asking for major gifts. We’ll talk about how to structure a major gift program at a size that works for you, how to frame your campaign and when/how to ask for the gift. This interactive session is geared to build your own confidence as well as your organization’s program.

Corty Fengler's 30-year career in philanthropy has included work both as a development officer and as a consultant. She served as canon for development at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco and before that as director of development for the San Francisco Symphony and the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and Westover School. She worked for Wellesley College during two capital campaigns. As a consultant she has provided services to nonprofits such as the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and many choruses, orchestras and schools.
